The ANZAC Tea Parlour is located in the historic home of Ben Snipes (1835 – 1906), the “Northwest Cattle King.” By 1864, Ben owned more cattle than any other person in the Northwest, with livestock estimated at 125,000 head of cattle and 20,000 horses.  In 1865 he built his home in The Dalles for his young bride, Mary. In 1958 he was inducted into the National Cowboy Hall of Fame’s Hall of Great Westerners.

In 2004 Alan and Bev converted the Snipes home into the ANZAC Tea Parlour, complete with its own commercial kitchen. Bev lived in Sydney, Australia for 20 years before moving back to America. She started selling ANZAC biscuits (cookies), famous for their unique flavor from ingredients Bev imports from Australia. “ANZAC” is an acronym for “Australia-New Zealand Army Corps,” as these biscuits were famously made and shipped to the Aussie soldiers during World War I.

The ANZAC Tea Parlour can accommodate bridal and baby showers, rehearsal dinners, parties of all kinds, and will cater group and family events off-site.

The Parlour offers unique wedding cakes and other specialty cakes made-to-order.

The small house just east of the Tea Parlour is the Victor Trevitt house, built ca. 1868. The Eagy’s bought it for $7.00 and moved it from City Park to its current location and are working on restoring it.
